Perchance to dream

It was an old lullaby that they sang
A lullaby from long ago.
Underneath the Milky Way,
Where millions of stars lit their night,
Together they sang that lullaby of old.

That old lullaby they used to sing,
When their children were very young.
Where the children used to play,
Now it was only them.

They sat under a lone oak tree,
Humming that tune softly.
Remembering those youthful dreams,
That they once chased.

Together they drifted,
Into the land of dreams,
Their weathered faces turning young again.

"To sleep, perchance to dream",
A verse from yesteryears,
That they cherished and never forgot.

Their hands intertwined,
Their hearts beating softly,
Their breaths fading,
Together they slipped
Into eternity.
